Located in the Saint Anthony Square at the corner of Şepcari street and Covaci street, the Old Cafe was built in the first decade of the 19th century. Restored at the same time as Manuc’s Inn and the Princely Palace, it preserves its shutters and iron doors characteristic to that period. Its name reminds of the second café recorded in Bucharest, opened by the „baş alai ceauş“ Ştefan Altentop on the 7th of August 1781 inside the Old Court. After his death in 1797, his wife inherits the Old Cafe, and sell it to Hagi Tudose Gabrovolin fifteen years later. At his turn, Hagi Tudose passes it on, in 1825, to Hristi Emanuel Papazoglu, and from this moment, the café continued to run without being mentioned in documents.
Amplasata in Piata Sfantului Anton la intersectia dintre strazile Şepcari si Covaci, Cafeneaua Veche a fost construita in prima decada a secolului 19.
