Medieval Romania with Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress (Wallachia, Transilvania)
Tour #1
Our tour will include visits to beautiful and famous medieval touristic attractions, the main attraction being the famous Dracula’s Castle (the Bran Castle). The first stop will be in Campulung to visit the Monastery of Negru Voda (the Black King) built in 1215 with the old printing house of biblical books, the place where it was located the first capital of Wallachia. Not far will be visited another old monastery in Namaesti built in a cave in the mountain rock where the legend says some sheperds found a portrait of Mary the Virgin painted by apostle LUCA. The icon with the portrait of Virgin Mary can be seen there today. The way to the Dracula’s castle passes one of the most beautiful roads in Romania crossing the mountains from Wallachia to Transilvania, the Rucar – Bran pass. Built on a rock by the Teutonic Knights in the 11th century, the Bran Castle was guarding the trade routes from the Danube region to Transilvania. Vlad Dracul (the Impaler) who inspired Bram Stoker in writing Dracula, spent here a night in his way to Transylvania. Lunch is waiting in a beautiful location not far from the Bran castle. The tour ends at the Rasnov fortress built around 1300 by peasants. Its huge walls made it invincible and the fortress was never conquered by enemies.
